The conference, held in Bangkok, was attended by participants from 12 countries and covered a wide range of topics, including the quality of life, education, science and technology, agriculture, bio-energy, environmental management, public health, literature and the arts, economics, governance and social issues. Thanpuying Suthawan, one of the speakers, is also Special Adviser to MFF Thailand, a position she has held since MFF began. Ms. Suthawan presented a paper on Environmental Governance through Oriental Wisdom: A Buddhist Approach.
Don’s paper, entitled Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Conservation and Utilization, included reference to MFF’s experiences with small grant projects and their success in helping coastal communities to develop locally managed conservation and sustainable use areas, especially in Thailand.
